Building Community Beyond Financial Planning: Our Summer Client Appreciation BBQ
At Apeiron Planning Partners, some of our most meaningful moments with clients happen outside the office.
While financial planning often centers around retirement, taxes, investments, and long-term goals, those conversations ultimately exist to support something much bigger: family, friendships, experiences, and community.
Several years ago, we hosted one of our favorite client appreciation events at Scott Hammel's home in University Park. Nestled in the heart of the Park Cities, the backyard summer BBQ brought together clients, family members, and friends from across Dallas-Fort Worth for an evening of great food, live music, charitable giving, and connection.
A Summer Evening In Dallas
On a beautiful summer evening in University Park, guests arrived to a backyard transformed into a relaxed gathering space complete with long family-style tables, fresh flowers, live music, and plenty of Texas barbecue.
Throughout the evening, clients enjoyed food from Lockhart Smokehouse, custom cocktails, local beer selections, fresh-squeezed lemonade, and desserts shared among friends and neighbors.
The atmosphere was intentionally simple. No presentations. No market updates. No financial planning agenda. Just an opportunity for great people to spend time together.
Bringing Families Together
One of the things we have always valued at Apeiron is creating opportunities for clients to connect beyond quarterly meetings and annual reviews.
Many of the families we work with have spent years building careers, raising children, caring for parents, and planning for the future. Events like this allow everyone to slow down for an evening and simply enjoy the company of others navigating many of the same life experiences.
Children played games together. Parents caught up with friends. Clients met other families from across the Dallas area. And our team had the opportunity to spend time with the people we are fortunate to serve every day.
Supporting The Community
The event also highlighted a cause that remains important to us.
Fresh lemonade was served throughout the evening, with proceeds benefiting Esperanza, helping support awareness and charitable giving within the community.
We have always believed that successful financial planning extends beyond personal finances. It also includes the ability to positively impact the communities where we live and work. Whether through charitable giving, volunteer efforts, or community involvement, these opportunities remain an important part of who we are as a firm.
More Than Financial Planning
Financial planning is often viewed through the lens of numbers — investment accounts, tax returns, retirement projections, and estate planning documents. While those areas matter, the purpose behind them is much more personal.
Strong financial planning helps create opportunities for family experiences, time with loved ones, community involvement, charitable giving, and greater flexibility and freedom.
The goal has never been accumulating wealth for its own sake. The goal is helping people build lives they enjoy. It's a philosophy we explore in our article on permission to spend in retirement — because for many families, the hardest part is learning to actually enjoy what they've worked so hard to build.
Why We Host Client Events
Over the years, we have hosted educational workshops, client appreciation gatherings, community events, and family-friendly experiences throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
These events help reinforce something we have believed since the beginning: financial planning is ultimately a relationship business. The strongest relationships are built through trust, shared experiences, and genuine connection.
Our planning process is built around long-term relationships rather than one-time transactions. While markets, tax laws, and financial strategies change over time, those relationships remain at the center of everything we do.
Looking Back
Years later, this summer BBQ remains one of our favorite client events. Not because of the food. Not because of the music. Not even because of the beautiful Texas weather.
But because it reflected the type of community we continue working to build at Apeiron Planning Partners — one centered around relationships, family, generosity, and helping people enjoy the lives they have worked so hard to create.
For families still in the process of building toward that future, our overview of who we work with is a great place to start understanding how we approach those conversations.
